How To Start A Spiritual Blog – One Year Anniversary Post

Has it been a year already? Wow, time really does fly when you’re having fun! If you would have told me a year ago that today I would be a full-time blogger and professional medium, I would have laughed. Sure the idea would have sounded appealing, but back then I had no clue what I was doing when it come to website development. I sure am glad I started this spiritual blog though! I’ve taught myself almost everything that I know when it comes to blogging and website development. As for mediumship, I have quite a few mentors and friends in the community that I have to give credit too! This awesome group of ladies helped me to accept my gifts, develop them, and even pursue what I thought was impossible…a spiritual based business and a life that I am in love with!

A year ago I knew that I needed to get my story out there but I didn’t have anyone to tell it to. I kept hearing my guides telling me that I could help people with my own journey and that I needed to write about it. I had no CLUE how I was going to go about this; journaling wouldn’t reach anyone, I wasn’t about to start a podcast, and to be honest I was afraid to put myself out there. Then it hit me (thanks, spirit!) a blog…I could start a blog! I had always loved graphic design, I used to journal, and I had a TON to say, a blog would be perfect!

So I found wordpress.com and I started writing!

I didn’t know where it was going to lead and really I had no expectations; all I wanted was to help at least one person with my story. As the months went by and the first few articles spewed from my fingertips, I started getting emails and comments thanking me for my content. I was BLOWN away and so very grateful, I may have even cried happy tears on an occasion or two! At the time I was doing readings on the side through word of mouth or email contacts on my blog, eventually, the free version of WordPress wasn’t enough to support my growing blog that was quickly turning into a business!

I found a great hosting company called Bluehost and I still use them today! Bluehost made the transition from a free wordpress.com site to a wordpress.org site easy and seamless. For those of you who are unaware (as I once was) wordpress.com is NOT the same as wordpress.org! I don’t even want to go into how many times I tried logging into the wrong one…embarrassing! WordPress.org requires a hosting site such as Bluehost; you will need to upgrade to wordpress.org if you want to have a cool theme, payment system, contact forms, subscription forms, and any other plugin on your site.

So, after transferring my site I was able to add different pages, a ton of new options, new features, and that is when I officially started offering my services! Once I upgraded my site (it was only $3.95 A MONTH!) I saw a total increase in traffic and a need for a services and payment page. Bluehost offered so much right off the bat..like backend file management, an email address with my domain name, FREE SEO software, and so much more. Once I got the hang of it, it was super easy…I’m not going to lie to you and tell you there wasn’t a bit of a learning curve, but within a month or so I learned so much about website development and now most of it comes easily! If you’re thinking about starting a blog I highly recommend wordpress.org as there are tons of helpful and FREE plugins!

Still, even after offering my services I thought it was just going to be a fun side gig…something I did in the evenings after work. It turned into so much more than that! I started getting requests from clients I was reading to teach them how to do what I was doing! Of course, I was nervous at first but I thank each and every one of those client’s because I have finally found my calling! Teaching intuitive development and helping people understand their own gifts!

Coming out of the psychic closet, telling friends and family that I was going to be leaving my corporate job to be a full-time blogger and professional medium wasn’t the easiest thing to do. However, so far (besides my husband and son of course) it has been the best decision I’ve ever made.

I am happier, less stressed, and I finally have the freedom I’ve always yearned for…oh and the biggest bonus? I get to be myself every single day! I love who I have become through my spiritual development and I would say that starting a blog contributed to that in more ways than I can ever explain! If you’ve been thinking about starting a spiritual blog or even a food blog, I say go for it! You never know what may come of it….you never know how your words could help someone! In addition to helping other people, it’s also so freeing to just get stuff off of your chest…to get it out there and not have it fester in your mind forever!

If you’re not ready to completely tell people who you are in the beginning that’s ok too! My blog was anonymous for a while and so is The Everyday Medium’s blog; this works wonders for her! All you have to do is start….just start typing and let your fingers do the rest; you never know where it’s going to take you! My blog has taken me way past what I thought could be my reality! As I sit here and reflect today, I can’t help but be thankful for each and every reader, each and every client, and each and every spirit who has helped me along the way!

Go for it…start a blog, talk about your life, get everything off your chest! I promise someone is going to want to hear what you have to say!

Cheers to the new year and happy one year anniversary to Lightloveandspirit.com!
